Versova Beach Cleanup

In year 2017-18, GreenLine had joined hands with Afroz Shah, UN ‘Champion of Earth’ award winner and also winner of ‘Indian of the year’ by CNN News to clean the Versova Beach, Mumbai. Versova Beach was one of the most unclean beaches in Mumbai. In 2015, Afroz Shah started this Cleanup drive and got more citizens involved in it day-by-day. Soon it became a largest beach clean-up movement in the world.

In 2017, on the occasion of International Coastal Cleanup Day, GreenLine joined this movement with its 176 volunteers from several colleges and institutions. Since then, GreenLine volunteers has been regularly going for beach clean-up activities at Versova which used to happen on weekends.

Students from ‘South Indian Education Society, Sion’ and from ‘Central Institute of Fisheries Education’ showed great enthusiasm and helped to take this movement further. Whereas students from ‘Nirmala Niketan, Churchgate’, ‘Government Law College, Fort Mumbai’ and ‘Don Bosco Institute of Technology, Kurla’ had also contributed several hours for clean-up and supported this cause.

This project was run successfully for 6 months from September 2017 till March 2018. Certificates were given to the volunteers who completed more than 18 hours of cleaning.
