Wonderful Waders

World Migratory Bird Day (8 May 2021) is celebrated to raise awareness among common people about migratory birds and the importance of conserving them at international level through mutual cooperation.

Birds are an important species of our ecosystem & to celebrate ‘World Migratory Bird Day’, on 8 May 2021 GreenLine organized a webinar on ‘Wonderful Waders’.

Mr. Hemant V. Karkhanis was the guest speaker and has been working as an Associate Manager in the Mangrove dept. at Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd. for 14 years now.

We had more than 74 participants from Mumbai & other parts of India who attended the webinar. During the webinar Mr. Hemant Karkhanis not only shared information about waders to identify them, but also explained all of it with minute details.

He emphasised on the importance of conservation of the migratory sites to conserve the waders & water birds. It was a very interactive session where our participants also learnt about the basic difference between wader & waterbirds. He also showed some amazing videos such as the time lapse of the tides in the creek & how much mudflats are exposed during low tide, the flamingo courtship dance (by BBC) and many more short videos of different birds.

The participants are really keen to watch the waders & especially flamingoes post the lockdown. The session ended on a positive note where various doubts of our participants were answered by our guest speaker.

I learnt how to distinguish between and the magic of colours bestowed upon sandpipers and plovers with WTF and SSC respectively.

2) Yogita Thakur: The session was very informative. I learnt about modification in different birds & facts about flamingos.
